Squad Member Rashida Tlaib Crushes Primary Opponent, Cruises Toward Second Term
August 6, 2020Democrat voters continue to cast their lot with radicals who only a few short years ago would not have been allowed to run at the national level.
On Wednesday, Rashida Tlaib easily won her primary in Michigan's 13th Congressional District, crushing Brenda Jones and setting her on a course for a second term.

Tlaib is a member of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's "Squad" and has been a controversial figure for virulent anti-Semitism as well as her hatred of President Trump and her battle cry of "impeach the motherf***er" made her into a rock star of the resistance.
It was this national name recognition that fueled Tlaib's fundraising which overwhelmed her hapless opponent.
Via The Hill, "Tlaib wins Michigan Democratic primary":
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) successfully defended her seat in Michigan’s 13th District on Tuesday, fending off a primary challenge from former Rep. Brenda Jones (D-Mich.).
The Associated Press called the race for the incumbent on Wednesday morning. Tlaib won 66 percent of the votes cast, with 87 percent of precincts reporting.
“Voters sent a clear message that they’re done waiting for transformative change, that they want an unapologetic fighter who will take on the status quo and win," Tlaib said in a statement on Wednesday.
"We have a resounding mandate to put people before profits. Let it be known that in the 13th District, just like in communities across our country, we are done with establishment politics that put corporations first," she continued. "If I was considered the most vulnerable member of the Squad, I think it’s safe to say the Squad is here to stay, and it’s only getting bigger."
Tlaib was seen as the front-runner going into the primary given her lead in fundraising and in the polls. A Target-Insight survey released last month showed the lawmaker with 52 percent support, while Jones trailed at 24 percent support.
In fundraising, Tlaib raised $777,000 during the second quarter, bringing her fundraising total to $2.9 million. Jones, on the other hand, raised $98,000 during the same period, bringing her total to $140,000.

Like AOC, Tlaib is a disciple of socialist curmudgeon Bernie Sanders who rolled over and played dead for Joe Biden and the DNC but remains a powerful and influential force in the down-ticket races.
The mentor offered his congratulations like a proud father beaming over the takeover of the Democratic party by his socialist acolytes and with the geriatric old guard of Nancy Pelosi and her elderly commissars nearing the end of the line, the future is looking to be one of increasing radicalism.
Ocasio-Cortez who steamrolled her primary opponent in June took to Twitter to comment on Tlaib's big win.
- AOC gloated:
- "Please put some respect on @RashidaTlaib’s victory last night. She didn’t “survive” - she *overwhelmed* at the polls. Throughout our first term, we‘ve been told our advocacy is “too much” to be re-elected. Instead, voters supported her in huge margins."
Another high profile Squad member Ilhan Omar faces her own primary in Minneapolis this month and may not be so lucky due to the ongoing unrest after rioters burned down large portions of her district in response to the death of George Floyd.
