Budget, Spending, & Tax

State Spending:

Using the key, indicate what state funding levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one level per category; you may use a number more than once.

1. Education (higher)
- Slightly Increase

2. Education (K-12)
- Slightly Increase

3. Environment
- Maintain Status

4. Health care
- Maintain Status

5. Law enforcement/corrections
- Maintain Status

6. Transportation/infrastructure
- Maintain Status

7. Welfare
- Maintain Status

8. Other or expanded categories
- The answer to all of these budget questions depend on what level state revenues are coming in. If an increase then I would be willing to spend more on each subject but if steady from last year revenues then maintain status.

State Taxes:

Using the key, indicate what state tax levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one level per category; you may use a number more than once.

1. Alcohol taxes
- Slightly Increase

2. Cigarette taxes
- Maintain Status

3. Corporate taxes
- Maintain Status

4. Gas/Oil taxes
- Maintain Status

5. Property taxes
- Slightly Decrease

6. Sales taxes
- Maintain Status

7. Income taxes (low-income families)
- Maintain Status

8. Income taxes (mid-income families)
- Maintain Status

9. Income taxes (high-income families)
- Maintain Status

10. Other or expanded principles
- You can't just give a broad answer to these questions. Some taxes I would decrease like personal property on businesses. I would like to decrease property taxes and replace with an increase of consumer taxes. Income taxes should be reformed with the same percentage rate for all.Question a. We need a way to fund more addiction programs.

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Arizona's budget.

1. Tapping into Arizona's "rainy day" fund
- No

2. Increasing tuition rates at public universities
- No

3. Reducing or eliminating public worker collective bargaining
- Yes

4. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions
- No

5. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees
- No

6. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients
- No

7. Other or expanded principles
- Again, you can't answer these question so simply. If we have a true emergency then yes I would use the "rainy day" fund. I think we balance the budget by only spending what we take in. No need to cut salaries or layoffs unless there is real deficit then those measures would be necessary.

7. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- No

8. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- Yes

Do you support limits on the following types of contributions for state candidates?

1. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that the courts have ruled on contributions as a form of free speech. I think the key is complete disclosure of who is donating to any committee. I think we need to require all political committees even third party committees to report who is donating. Then the public can decide if they have a problem with who is supporting that candidate.

- Yes

7. Other or expanded principles

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, on an attached page, or via e-mail, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- 1. Increase revenues through job and business support. That means working on excessive regulations that impact small businesses and be sure that all taxes are fair and equal.2. Reform K-12 education funding. Make it simple and allow local school boards to have a real say in where monies are spent. If we can increase spending to education it must get to the classroom. 3. Encourage the state to get involved with forestry issues to encourage thinning to stop catastrophic fires and increase water sheds.
