Trump Exposes Dems For Latest Stunt To Defeat Him Before Election; 'It's A Political Thing'
May 14, 2020President Donald Trump revealed this week he thinks Democrats are trying to exploit the coronavirus and keep the U.S. economy closed in a "political attempt" to harm his re-election chances.
During an interview with Fox Business Network's Maria Bartiromo, the president said Democrats are doing everything they can to use the coronavirus threat to hurt him politically in the November election.
The president also said he disagrees with Dr. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House coronavirus task force, on the measures to reopen schools.
Trump was asked if he thinks Democrats want to harm the economy by keeping it closed going into the presidential election.
"Yeah, I do. I do. I think it's a political thing," Trump said.

"The people that want to see the right thing happen, they agree with me. We have to get our country open," Trump said. "You know, if it was up to some people let's keep it closed for a long time ... and watch the United States go down the tubes. Not gonna happen. Never gonna happen on my watch."
Trump also disagreed with Fauci on waiting to reopen schools. The president said he thinks measures can and should be put in place to keep everyone safe while slowly transitioning everyone back to normal.
“So [Dr.] Anthony [Fauci] is a good person, a very good person – I've disagreed with him,” Trump said. “We have to get the schools open, we have to get our country open, we have to open our country. Now we want to do it safely, but we also want to do it as quickly as possible, we can't keep going on like this … You're having bedlam already in the streets, you can't do this. We have to get it open. I totally disagree with him on schools.”

Trump rounded out his comments on the coronavirus by suggesting there could be long-term health effects if states continue to keep people at home under stay-at-home orders.
"We have to open our country, we have no choice. You know people are dying this way too ... they're dying of this closure ... where they're in their house or their apartment; they're not allowed to go out," Trump said.
Last month, Trump delivered some much needed good news over the weekend when he revealed that there could be a vaccine to treat and cure the coronavirus available much sooner than most expected.
Trump is referring to “Operation Warp Speed,” which is the administration's plan to accelerate the process of multiple vaccines that can be used to help treat Americans across the country who may have CV-19.
According to Bloomberg, the operation “will use government resources to quickly test the world’s most promising experimental vaccines in animals, then launch coordinated human clinical trials to winnow down the candidates. The best prospective vaccines would go into wider trials at the same time mass production ramps up.”
On Thursday, Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke about the “Warp Speed” vaccine process with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie.
“The question is, you always have to say you want to get a vaccine that is safe, and that’s effective, and that you could scale up rapidly,” Fauci stated.
So what the plan is right now … we’re in the early phases of a trial, Phase 1. When you go into the next phase, we’re going to safely and carefully, but as quickly as we possibly can, try and get an answer as to whether it works and is safe, and if so, we’re going to start ramping up production with the companies involved, and you do that at risk.

“In other words, you don’t wait until you get an answer before you start manufacturing. You, at risk, proactively start making it assuming it’s going to work, and if it does, then you could scale up and hopefully get to that timeline,” Fauci added.
