Since the last time we checked in on how the presidential hopefuls are doing on the fundraising front, the size of the field has ballooned: Around a dozen new candidates have joined the race for the White House since April.

Money isn’t always the best indicator of how well a candidate is doing with voters — especially as many of these campaigns started part of the way through the fundraising period. But it sure is helpful to have the funds to get the campaign off of the ground. And we’re starting to see which candidates have picked up some momentum — as well as who hasn’t.

Here’s how the presidential candidates fared in the latest round of fundraising, according to their FEC reports, which cover April 1 through June 30. (Note: These figures only include the candidates’ principal campaign committees, not affiliated committees nor super PACs.)

More than $10 million …

— Ron DeSantis: DeSantis posted a $20.1 million haul, topping the list of current and former executive branch officials. It’s an impressive figure. But more than $3 million of that is earmarked for the general election, meaning those funds will not be available until the primary is over. And a chunk of DeSantis’ itemized donations came in during the first few days of his campaign, which he launched in May.

“The Florida governor remains positioned to be a major player in the race — even one who could wrestle the nomination from Trump — with more than $12 million cash on hand at the end of the quarter. But he appears reliant on major donors. And the early allure of his candidacy seems to have worn off a touch,” POLITICO’s Jessica Piper writes.

— President Joe Biden: Biden came out of the gate with a substantial fundraising haul for the first quarter since announcing his reelection bid in April, bringing in $19.9 million. That includes $11.2 transferred from joint fundraising efforts with the DNC. The president entered July with $20.1 million in his coffers.

The number you’ll likely see floating around is $72 million, the combined fundraising amount with the DNC and their joint fundraising committees. The entities have a combined $77 million on hand. As a comparison, then-President Donald Trump’s campaign and the RNC raised $105 million during the same period in 2019. — Donald Trump: The former president, a fundraising juggernaut, brought in $17.7 million in Q2. Around $15.2 million came from his joint fundraising committee. He remains the king of small-dollar donors: His campaign reported receiving $14.6 million from donors giving less than $200, transferred from his joint fundraising committee. Meanwhile, DeSantis raised $2.8 million from those donors.

Trump had $22.5 million at his disposal heading into Q3.

— Doug Burgum: Burgum, the wealthy governor of North Dakota who joined the race in June, reported $11.8 million in receipts. It’s a massive haul for someone with little national name ID — but one that’s owed almost entirely to self-funding. He put in $10.2 toward his bid. Burgum entered July with $3.7 million in his coffers.

$1 million through $10 million …

— Vivek Ramaswamy: Ramaswamy, a political newcomer who’s been attempting to make a name for himself since announcing his bid in February, reported $7.7 million in receipts. But a lot of that is the wealthy entrepreneur’s own money: he loaned himself $5 million last quarter. (In Q1, he put more than $10 million into his bid). Ramaswamy entered Q3 with $9 million in the bank.

— Robert F. Kennedy Jr: The second-place Democrat (read: polling under 20 percent) raised $6.4 million since joining the race in April. He had $4.5 million in the bank.

The top contributors to his campaign? Donors who typically give to Republicans. “Kennedy is running on a platform that includes opposition to efforts to vaccinate against Covid-19, which is increasingly resonating with the Republican base,” Jessica writes.

— Tim Scott: The Republican senator from South Carolina raised $5.9 million. He had $21.1 million on hand.

— Nikki Haley: The former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador raked in around $5.3 million and had $6.8 million in the bank. That fundraising figure includes a $1 million transfer from Team Stand for America, her joint fundraising committee.

— Perry Johnson: Johnson reported $5 million in receipts — $61,000 of which was from individuals, according to an amended report filed on Sunday. The majority of his funds came from personal loans. The Republican Michigan businessperson had $2.5 million in the bank.

— Ryan Binkley: Although this Texas businessperson isn’t getting as much attention as the other GOP presidential hopefuls since he hopped in the race in late April, he posts a higher fundraising total than many of them: $2.1 million. That, however, was aided by a $1.6 million personal loan. He had $611,00 on hand.

— Chris Christie: Christie, who’s trying to own the anti-Trump lane since he joined the GOP primary in June (the same week as Mike Pence), raked in close to $1.7 million. The former New Jersey governor ended the quarter with $1.6 million in the bank.

— Mike Pence: The former vice president launched his presidential bid at the beginning of June and posted one of the lowest hauls among those with high name ID: $1.2 million. He had around $1.1 in his coffers.

“Pence allies maintain that his campaign is still in strong shape and note that early fundraising success, and extensive spending on advertising in early states, has seldom translated to success in Republican primaries,” our Eric Bazail-Eimil notes.

Under $1 million …

— Francis Suarez: The mid-June entrant to the GOP primary brought in $945,000 during the first few weeks of his campaign. Suarez, the mayor of Miami, had around $899,000 in the bank.

— Marianne Williamson: Williamson has been in the race for months — she was the first Democrat to officially declare — but she hasn’t seemed to pick up much momentum. She reported $921,000 in receipts, $120,000 of which was a personal loan. Williamson ended the quarter with $105,000 on reserve, and reported over $270,000 in unpaid debts.

— Asa Hutchinson: Hutchinson, the former governor of Arkansas, raised around $583,000 since announcing his run in April. He had around $379,000 on hand.

— Larry Elder: The conservative radio personality, who began his run in April, had a modest haul of $468,000. He had $325,000 on hand.

— Will Hurd: Hurd, a former Republican congressman from Texas, announced his bid at the end of June. He raised $274,000 in around the first week of his campaign and entered July with $245,000 on hand.

IN OTHER Q2 NEWS — Presidential candidates aren’t the only ones to keep an eye on. Here are some other tidbits from the filings that caught our eye:

… Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) was outraised for the second quarter in a row by Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego, her likely Democratic opponent should she choose to run for reelection. Sinema raised $1.7 million from April through June, and Gallego brought in $3.1 million in that same period. Sinema has around $10.8 million in the bank, almost three times more than the congressman. … Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who hasn’t yet announced if he’s running for reelection, reported raising $1.1 million in Q2. A bulk of that came from Republican firm Targeted Victory renting his email list. Romney ended the period with $1.6 million in the bank.

A number of primary opponents are lining up to challenge Romney. Utah House Speaker Brad Wilson’s exploratory committee reported raising $2.2 million — $1.2 million of which came from a personal loan. Trent Staggs, a local mayor, reported $221,000, including a $50,000 loan.

… Even though Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) says he’s running for reelection, “he spent virtually nothing on campaigning,” Jessica writes. The campaign paid Santos $85,000 last quarter, after he previously self-loaned hundreds of thousands of dollars. Santos brought in over $100,000 in Q2 and had five-figures in the bank — less than some of the opponents lining up to replace him.

Santos’ donors were “scattered across the country,” The New York Times’ Nicholas Fandos, Michael Gold and Grace Ashford note. “Some said they gave as a gag, but others sought to reward Mr. Santos’s stalwart stance against the Chinese Communist Party or his conservative views. The vast majority of donors reported living outside Mr. Santos’s Queens and Long Island district.”

… Democratic California state Sen. Scott Wiener, who launched an exploratory committee in the spring for Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s seat in CA-11, should she step down in 2024, raised more than $820,000, The San Francisco Standard’s Josh Koehn reports. Pelosi, who’s 83, hasn’t indicated that she won’t run again. But if she does, “Wiener’s campaign would simply put the exploratory committee on pause and wait until the next cycle.”

… The NRCC raised $25.8 million in Q2. That fundraising brings the NRCC to $51.6 million cycle-to-date, which the committee touted as “the most in a presidential off-year through the second quarter” in NRCC history. It ended the quarter with $31.8 million in its coffers.

KEEPING UP WITH THE GOVERNORS — Republican North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who’s running for governor next year, said his campaign raised $2.2 million in the first half of the year, and entered July with $3.2 million in the bank. Democratic North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein announced last week that he raised close to $6 million in that period and had more than $8.2 million on hand.

… “Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s main fundraising apparatus will soon report raising $5.75 million in this year’s second quarter, a sum that surpasses what any previous governor of the state has raised over an entire year, according to the group’s accounting,” the AP’s Sarah Rankin reports. Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC will report $8.5 million raised in the first half of the year, with $6 million in the bank.

2024 WATCH — Republican Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is jumping into the race for Ohio Senate, setting up what’s likely to be a messy primary. He’ll be facing off against (at least) state Sen. Matt Dolan and businessperson Bernie Moreno, two rivals who are wealthier than he is — although they lack his name recognition. … California Republican Kevin Lincoln, mayor of Stockton, is running for CA-09, Fox 40’s Jacque Porter reports. The district, held by Democratic Rep. Josh Harder, is a top target for national Republicans next year. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is set to host a fundraiser for Lincoln later this week.

SPECIAL ELECTION SCRAMBLE — It’s still an exceptionally crowded field in the race for RI-01. At least 13 Democrats and two Republicans submitted more than the required 500 valid signatures to make the ballot for the September special election primary, The Boston Globe’s Edward Fitzpatrick notes. But that could increase ahead of the Tuesday deadline for validating signatures.

FOR YOUR CALENDAR — The Supreme Court will hear arguments in October in a South Carolina case that could have major implications for its congressional maps. The nation’s high court on Oct. 11 will take on Alexander v. South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP, in which Republican lawmakers are challenging a lower court’s decision that found SC-01, held by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, was an unlawful racial gerrymander. “Attorneys bringing the suit asked the court to schedule oral arguments at the beginning of its new term in October and issue a decision by Jan. 1 to ensure that the 2024 elections can proceed smoothly,” The Post and Courier’s Caitlin Byrd writes.

EYES ON IOWA — The latest GOP cattle call took place in Iowa on Friday at the Family Leadership Summit. Even though Tucker Carlson and Fox News went through a breakup early this year, the conservative powerhouse is still proving to be a dominant force in the presidential election. As Carlson hosted the forum “traditionally billed as a chance for candidates to pitch themselves to Iowa’s influential evangelicals, … several were subjected to a combative stress test conducted by the ousted Fox News anchor whose 9 million-strong Twitter following demonstrates his continued sway over the GOP,” our Sally Goldenberg writes.

LEADER OF THE PAC — Biden’s advisers are elevating Future Forward as the super PAC to boost his reelection campaign, The New York Times’ Shane Goldmacher and Reid J. Epstein report. “The blessing of the group … is a changing of the guard in the important world of big-money Democratic politics. Since the 2012 election, a different group, Priorities USA, has been the leading super PAC for Democratic presidential candidates.”

PRESIDENTIAL — Republican Accountability PAC is making its first foray into Iowa this cycle, hitting Trump for swinging at Republican Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds last week. The ad is backed by a six-figure buy and is airing on Fox News, per the Des Moines Register’s Galen Bacharier.

OHIO BALLOT INITIATIVE — Protect Women Ohio, a coalition of anti-abortion rights groups against a potential November ballot measure that would codify the right to an abortion in the state constitution, is dropping $2 million on a spot promoting a separate ballot initiative on the August ballot that would make it more difficult to pass ballot initiatives. If the August initiative passes, the threshold for the November abortion amendment would be raised from a simple majority to 60 percent.

The Protect Women Ohio spot emphasizes preserving parental rights and keeping “trans ideology … out of Ohio classrooms.” Opponents to the abortion initiative have pushed against the measure by arguing that it would allow for gender-affirming care without parental consent, even though such a provision is not in the initiative’s language.

— Fewer than 10 staffers were let go by DeSantis’ presidential campaign last week, our Alex Isenstadt reports. “Never Back Down, the pro-DeSantis super PAC, has received resumes from staffers who’ve been let go, a person familiar with the group said.”

— Dave Abrams, the DeSantis campaign’s communications adviser and media director, and Tucker Obenshain, who led external affairs, are leaving the campaign to help an outside political nonprofit group that will be bolstering the governor, per Alex.

FIRST IN SCORE — End Citizens United/Let America Vote, the PAC that boosts pro-campaign finance reform Democrats, is staffing up for 2024. Rushad Thomas is now director of legislative affairs; Jonas Edwards-Jenks is director of communications; Grace Silva is press secretary; and Trenton Seubert and Darrin Owens are regional political directors. Jody Murphy was promoted to chief program officer; Amanda Bogden was promoted to chief operating officer; and Lynn Jorden was promoted to director of independent expenditures.

— “Justice Democrats, the progressive PAC that made waves in recent years by helping new-generation lefty candidates run against more establishment Dems, laid off nine of its 20 employees this week as the organization faces a major financial crunch,” Daniel Lippman writes in Playbook.

CODA: QUOTE OF THE DAY — “The intention was to use a banal, stereotypical message as a parody—to use humor to sell bagels. … This effort is not a campaign expense—it is not electoral in nature.” (Stephen Brown, a Seattle City Council candidate and the president of a local bagel chain, to PubliCola about a mailer he sent out that says “Seattle deserves better ... bagels!”)
