While speaking with reporters on Wednesday in the Oval Office, the president was asked about the Roger Stone case and how several Mueller allies recommended he be sentenced to 9 years in prison.
Trump didn't hold back with his response:
No I didn’t speak to the Justice… I would be able to do it if I wanted. I have the absolute right to do it. I stay out of things to a degree that people wouldn’t believe. But I didn’t speak to him.
I thought the recommendation was ridiculous. I thought the whole prosecution was ridiculous. And I look at others who haven’t been prosecuted or I don’t know where it is now. But when you see that I thought it was an insult to our country and it shouldn’t happen.
Trump was also asked by Fox News reporter John Roberts if he knows who the anonymous media leaker is in the White House.
Trump said: “I don’t want to say. But you’d be surprised!”
Trump's response seems to suggest his knows who the leaker is and his team may be on the verge of taking action.
WATCH:
Trump is referring to an anonymous piece published in the New York Times last year, titled, "I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration."
The anonymous author -- which the Times claims it will not reveal their identity amid fears of reprisal -- claims they are a senior Trump administration official.
The piece has been widely condemned. Many have taken issue with the author arrogantly writing that they and other "like-minded colleagues … have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations."
Here's part of what the piece states:
The dilemma — which he does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.
I would know. I am one of them.To be clear, ours is not the popular “resistance” of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.
But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic.
Aside from sounding self-righteous and as if they are saving the country, the author went on to actually commend Trump for having major accomplishments and keeping the nation safer.
Don’t get me wrong. There are bright spots that the near-ceaseless negative coverage of the administration fails to capture: effective deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more.
If they actually are a senior administration official, assuming the Times didn't make them up, why haven't they quit if they dislike Trump so much?
The author admits that Trump's policies have delivered massive results and that the president has made the nation much safer.
But then they go on to arrogantly act as if they -- a presumed leftist who was elected by no one -- are running the White House. They aren't; Trump is, because he won an election and is the leader of the greatest nation in the world.

The piece has been largely condemned by many on both sides of the political aisle. Many have taken issue with the author arrogantly writing that they and other "like-minded colleagues ... have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations."

Why does this traitor, as Trump described them, still have a job in the White House? If they actually are a senior administration official, assuming the Times didn't make them up, why haven't they quit if they dislike Trump so much?

The author, many would agree, is a coward. And it appears the president knows who this person is and may take action.
